That was jolly bad luck and navigational conditions were tough day 2 on the course. In these events there is a fine line between being tough enough to battle on and knowing when to bail out. As it happens I did the opposite to you and wimped out day 2 once the going got tough and in hindsight i’m kicking myself for not keeping my head and battling it out.
It was fun racing against you both, hope we can have a more successful re run next year!

Hey folks, don’t be too hard on yourself! I’ve been in the same postion more than once – and guess so has nearly everyone else. My partner and I stayed on the field that Sunday night and saw all the activity, and were hoping for a happy ending – we’re both MRT members in Lancashire and know that 99% of cases work out ok. You’ve drawn all the right conclusions from your experience, and I hope you get the chance in 2011 to have a great event!

Life is full of lessons i) never get a cavan man to navigate ii) cavan men are prone to bad knees iii) difene doesn’t work in all cases, the list goes on. However you showed determination and competitive spirit to persist and finish the race. Consequently it didn’t work out. Happily everyone was safe and accounted for, thanks to local help and event support teams. Best of luck for next year.
